Combatting IUU fishing
This section is open for discussions relating to the work in the region to combat IUU fishing. The forum will also discuss how to meet the challenges of new regulations and measures relating to this (e.g. Port State Measures, Catch Certification etc.). New topics can be suggested. |

United States combatting IUU fishing

NOAA Fisheries has published a proposed rule outlining procedures for the identification and certification of nations whose vessels have been engaged in IUU fishing or bycatch of protected living marine resources. A draft environmental assessment of the proposed rule has also been completed and is available. Moderator: APFIC |

Catch Certification

Catch certificaiton is increasaingly being used as a means to combat IUU fishing and improve information on fishery catches. RFMO and other organizations have systems for this and meeting the requirements of these requires capacity building and understanding. APFIC member countries have requested APFIC to assist in making available relevant information related to the EU regulations, in particular the EU Catch Certification Scheme.
