Call for contributions to FAO overview of COPs/BMPs in aquaculture

The FAO Aquaculture Service of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Department in Rome calls for contributions to the development of a worldwide overview and databank of Codes of Practice, Codes of Conduct, Best (Better) Management Practices, Technical Guidelines, etc. in aquaculture.

We would like to invite all those interested in the promotion of sustainable aquaculture development to advise FAO of the existence of COP/BMP documents in their countries or regions. In particular, all aquaculture producer associations and farmer organizations are encouraged to send to FAO their Codes of Practice, Codes of Conduct, Best (Better) Management Practices, Technical Guidelines, etc. COPs/BMPs in aquaculture, as available with national and international organizations, would also be important and should also be contributed. These documents could be sent to FAO in hard copy format or electronic format, or, if available online, by informing FAO of the relevant website, internet link or URL. New APFIC publication: Regional consultative workshop "Best practices to support and improve the livelihoods of small-scale fisheries and aquaculture households"

An international conference for managers, scientists and the fishing sector on the collection and interpretation of traditional and non-traditional fishery dependent data in the context of the ecosystem approach will take place in Galway, Ireland, 23-26 August 2010.

The Technical Consultation on the Development of Technical Guidelines on Aquaculture Certification was recommended by the 4th Session of COFI Subcommittee for Aquaculture when the draft FAO Technical Guidelines to Aquaculture Certification developed from 6 expert workshops held around the world was introduced and discussed among the members and later endorsed by the 28th Session of COFI. It is anticipated that the agreement on the final document of the technical guideline will be reached among the members during the consultation and it will clear the way for the final endorsement at the next session of the COFI Subcommittee for Aquaculture.

FAO is looking for a Fishery Planning Analyst to work in the Development and Planning Service, FIEP Fisheries and Aquaculture Economics and Policy Division, FIE Fisheries and Aquaculture Department, in FAO Headquarters in Rome.
