Report of the Seventy-third Session of the APFIC Executive Committee, Nha Trang, Viet Nam, 23-25 August 2011, FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, Bangkok, RAP Publication 2011/23, 35 p.This document presents the final report of the Seventy-third Session of the Executive Committee of the Asia-Pacific Fishery Commission (APFIC) which was held in Nha Trang, Viet Nam, from 23 to 25 August 2011. The APFIC Executive Committee’s main function is to direct the conduct of business and affairs of the Commission between its biennial sessions and provide advice to the Secretariat. The APFIC Executive Committee at its Seventy-third session is composed of Viet Nam (Chairperson), India (Vice-Chairperson), Bangladesh and USA (Members), Republic of Korea (the former Chairperson) and the Secretary of the Commission (as an Ex-officio member). The agenda items discussed at the meeting were: – Inter-sessional activities of APFIC – Outcomes of the Third APFIC Regional Consultative Forum Meeting (RCFM) and recommendations of the Thirty-first Session – International fishery developments and recommendations of the FAO Committee on Fisheries (COFI) – Review of key areas for attention by APFIC and partner organizations – Updating the APFIC strategic plan 2012-2018 – Improving the effectiveness of APFIC’s role in the region – APFIC budget – APFIC ongoing workplan and preparations for the Fourth RCFM and arrangements for the Thirty-second Session of APFIC – Date and place of the Seventy-fourth session of APFIC Executive Committee The Executive Committee endorsed a number of recommendations relating to the direction of APFIC and how to strengthen its function. In addition, the Executive committee noted several key areas for attention under the forthcoming workplan. The Executive Committee also advised on the preparations for the Fourth Regional Consultative Forum Meeting and the Thirty-second Session of APFIC to be held in Da Nang, Viet Nam, in 2012.

The APFIC Executive Committee for biennium 2009-2010 is composed of the Republic of Korea (Chairperson), Viet Nam (Vice Chairperson), Philippines and Sri Lanka (Members), Indonesia (the outgoing Chairperson) and the Secretary of the Commission (as Ex-officio member). Major topics discussed at the meeting were ways to improve APFIC's effectiveness for its members in the region; the issues of significance to the region that have emerged in regional and international fora over the past biennium; progress and outcomes of the APFIC regional consultative workshops on "Practical implementation of the ecosystem approach to fisheries and aquaculture in the APFIC region" and "Improving resilience and reducing vulnerability of livelihoods in small-scale fisheries"; preparations for the Third Regional Consultative Forum meeting and the Thirty-first Session of APFIC to be held in Republic of Korea in September 2010. A number of recommendations made by the Executive Committee concerning future activities need to be acted on by the Secretariat in close cooperation with participating members and in partnership with other regional fishery bodies in Asia and the Pacific region.

This document presents the final report of the seventieth session of the Executive Committee of the Asia-Pacific Fishery Commission (APFIC) convened in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 23 to 25 August 2005. The APFIC Executive Committee's main function is to direct the conduct of business and affairs of the Commission between its biennial sessions. Major topics discussed at the session were: progress reports on the intersessional activities of APFIC; regional response to the tsunami; regional fishery bodies in Asia and the Pacific; outcomes of the trash fish and co-management workshops; and preparations for the regional consultative forum meeting and the twenty-ninth session of APFIC. The Committee reiterated that the main focus of APFIC's activities during the next biennium would remain small-scale fisheries and rural aquaculture, which would be pursued through partnerships with competent regional organizations. It was also agreed that the emerging need for an additional focus on fisheries trade and food safety (for both aquaculture and capture fisheries) would be brought into an expanded portfolio of activities for APFIC. A summary of the main recommendations and decisions are included in the session report.

his publication presents the final report of the sixty-ninth session of the Executive Committee of the Asia-Pacific Fishery Commission (APFIC) which was held in Pattaya, Thailand from 15 to 16 December 2003. Among the major topics discussed was the future role of APFIC. Most members wished to see the Commission continue its functions and to assume a new role as a regional consultative body to promote integration of the regional activities relating to fisheries. To provide an integrating mechanism for APFIC to assume its proposed role, it was recommended that APFIC organize and conduct a regional consultative forum as a biennial event. A summary of the main recommendations/decisions is included as an appendix to the report.
